Beast from the East and the hunt to find snow

Determined to experience some form of winter and smother out the complaints of not even being able to build a snowman resulting in a rather moody mix up of Anna's rendition to Elsa we ventured on a spontaneous snow hunt!

I find spontaneous adventures are always the ones that bring the best memories, don't get me wrong I am a true list maker and plan my Disney trips to the last second with timed toilet breaks, the works! But there is something exciting about packing your knickers and toothbrush and heading out to the great wide somewhere. We are very lucky to have good friends that live in the hills with a long overdue catch up needed and with their amazing hospitality we spent all weekend making snowmen, singing let it go and zipping down the Yorkshire hillsides.

It's amazing to see how diverse weather can bring families and strangers together, the random kid from school all of a sudden becomes the best friend for the day or the makeshift dad using a rubber dingy and dustbin lids to join in the fun. The best thing about makeshift dads (and mums) are they are always prepared! So when we had an unfortunate incident during a race which resulted in Craig (my husband) bursting the sled from a crash landing of a DIY ramp duct tape was not that far away much to Rose's (my daughters) amusement.

So after a quick repair job what could be a better idea than to find a BIGGER HILL! That seemed like the mature...I mean more fun thing to do. we headed over to the other side of a golf park that had an indoor soft play area style hill, you know the ones with multiple bumps that send you flying into the air. On our walk over we spotted two abandoned bin lids from previous contestants that were obviously taken by a local yeti therefore not able to clear up after themselves, but this worked in our favor as now all 5 of us had a sled each! This can only mean one thing....which one of us can get to the bottom of this side first!. Oh, and did I forget to mention the partially frozen steam/bog that lies at the foot of this slide providing the skill to our challenge.

As we zipped down flying though intruding grass tufts and trees the squeals of excitement and joy from the children and the adults proved that you don't have to be sad in the snow, in fact, it was one of the best weekends we have enjoyed in ages! True quality family time and meeting up with good friends what more can we all ask for in life. Best of all it only cost the fuel to get there and no-one ended up in the steam but there were a few close calls. It all added to the excitement and experience and at no point were the children in any danger as for the adults they can take responsibility for themselves!

Where ever you have been this winter I hope you have all had fun with your friends and family and most of all that you are all safe and well!
